Were You There

(Mark 'Wandering Bear' Barger)

Played with a Middle and high G flute.  Background that you hear is the crystal bowl.  This will be on our new CD. There may be slight changes to it.

Were you there when they crucified my Lord
Were you there when they crucified my Lord
Oh... sometimes, it causes me to tremble,
Were you there when they crucified my Lord

Were you there when they nailed Him to the cross
Were you there when they nailed Him to the cross
Oh... sometimes, it causes me to tremble,
Were you there when they nailed Him to the cross

Were you there when they pierced Him in the side
Were you there when they pierced Him in the side
Oh... sometimes, it causes me to tremble,
Were you there when they pierced Him in the side

Were you there when the sun refused to shine
Were you there when the sun refused to shine
Oh... sometimes, it causes me to tremble,
Were you there when the sun refused to shine

Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb
Oh... sometimes, it causes me to tremble,
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb

Were you there when the stone was rolled away
Were you there when the stone was rolled away
Oh... sometimes, it causes me to tremble,
Were you there when the stone was rolled away

Were you there when He rose up from the grave
Were you there when He rose up from the grave
Oh... sometimes, it causes me to tremble,
Were you there when He rose up from the grave

As The Deer Panteth

(Mark 'Wandering Bear' Barger)

Just thought I'd throw this on here to inspire my good friend Debbie.  This was done with two C flutes and a Davidic Harp

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You

You're my friend and You are my brother
Even though You are a king
And I love You more than any other
So much more than anything

Chorus

I want You more than gold or silver
Only You can satisfy
You alone are the real joy giver
And the apple of my eye

Based on Psalm 42:5:

When my soul is weighed down with sorrow,
I put all my trust in You.
All my hope is in You, my Savior,
So I lift my praise to You.

Chorus

Based on Psalm 42:8:

Day by day You send forth Your love,
And it waters all the earth;
Night by night Your song within me
is my prayer and my rebirth.

Kumbaya

(Mark 'Wandering Bear' Barger)

A song originally associated with human and spiritual unity, closeness and compassion, is a reminder that we are all of one heart and spirit from the Creator.  As you listen to the song, two flutes attempt to join as one heart in harmony just as humanity continually attempts to join as one.  It is as the Creator would want, one heart, one spirit.

Prayer of the Ancients

(Mark 'Wandering Bear' Barger)

Replica of an ancient Anisazi Flute.  The flute was made by Mark’s good friend Coyote Oldman.  (see Resource Link).  The Anasazi flute is the name of a pre-historic end-blown flute replicated today from findings at a massive cave in Prayer Rock Valley in Arizona, USA by an archaeological expedition led by Earl H. Morris in 1931. The team excavated 15 caves and the largest amongst these had 16 dwellings and many artifacts including several wooden flutes, which gave the site its name, the Broken Flute Cave.

The flutes found in the cave was dated between 620 and 670 AD. They were all made of Box Elder, have 6 finger holes and are end-blown. It is similar in many respects to a Hopi flute, which has only five finger holes.

The Anasazi flute has in recent years been reproduced and restored to the catalog of World flutes. While difficult to play in many respects, it has a rich, warm voice that spans a little over one and a half octaves.

Sanctuary

(Mark 'Wandering Bear' Barger)

I wrote this version of Sanctuary for the Native American Flute on our way back from the Grand Canyon.  My Brother-In-Law, brother in Christ and best friend, John Martin had just suddenly passed away. Carol and I had taken the day away from Prescott AZ to reflect on his life from the rim of the Grand Canyon.  I spent the day playing flutes on the rim of the Grand Canyon while shedding many a tear for his loss.

Sanctuary was John's favorite song and we sang it around his bed when he passed.  A part of me died when John died, I miss you my brother.  This song is for you.

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving, I'll be a living
Sanctuary for You

It is you, Lord
Who came to save
The heart and soul
Of every man
It is you Lord
who knows my weakness
Who gives me strength,
With thine own hand.

Lord prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and Holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving I'll be a living
Sanctuary for you

Lead Me on Lord
From temptation
Purify me
From within
Fill my heart with
You holy spirit
Take away all my sin

Lord prepare me to be sanctuary
Pure and holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving, I'll be a living
Sanctuary for You

Appaloosa Dance

(Mark 'Wandering Bear' Barger)

Every flute has a song in it just waiting to get out.  Such is the case with this song.  I recently purchased this flute from my good friends at the Oregon Flute store, Jeff and JoAnn Calavan.  The Oregon Flute Store it the premier resource store for all Native American Flute players.

After receiving this flute I just had to try it out, even though I was still a little groggy from the anesthesia that was still wearing off.  A beautiful Black Bamboo flute made by James Gilliland, nice sound and plays well.  Hope you enjoy.   You may purchase these from the Oregon Flute Store

Finding it All

(Mark 'Wandering Bear' Barger)

Sometimes it's interesting where inspiration comes from.  It can be found in the most unlikely places, and from the most unlike people.  If you’re looking for it you can find it from anyone.   Recently a coworker shared a photo of her son in roller skates.  After playing at the Bentonville Flute Gathering today I remembered this photo and was inspired to put another song together.  I thought of all the challenges life has in store for him and how he takes them head on.  This songs for you, may you "Find it All!

Valley of Peace

(Mark 'Wandering Bear' Barger)

After the battle is over, a blanket of peace surrounds the valley for all those who fought the good fight.  Surveying the serene beauty and peaceful haunting valley the warrior is at peace and rests in the arms of his creator.

This song is dedicated to my good friend and coworker Sherry.  Many is the time when we’ve spent the afternoon battling the days issues.

May we all find the peace that passes understanding at the days end.

Ancestral Echoes

(Mark 'Wandering Bear' Barger)

Sit back, close your eyes and let your mind’s eye take you on a journey back to the canyons of the ancestors.  Hear their haunting echoes love songs and cries beckoning to you.   All sounds you hear were made from numerous Native American Style flutes and other indigenous instruments.   Take a moment from you day and enjoy the echoes of your ancestors. For Those Tears I Died

(Mark 'Wandering Bear' Barger)

My Rendition of a beautiful song on an F# flute.

You said You'd come and share all my sorrows,
You said You'd be there for all my tomorrows;
I came so close to sending You away,
But just like You promised You came there to stay;
I just had to pray!

And Jesus said, "Come to the water, stand by My side,
I know you are thirsty, you won't be denied;
I felt ev'ry teardrop when in darkness you cried,
And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died."

Your goodness so great I can't understand,
And, dear Lord, I know that all this was planned;
I know You're here now, and always will be,
Your love loosed my chains and in You I'm free;
But Jesus, why me?

And Jesus said, "Come to the water, stand by My side,
I know you are thirsty, you won't be denied;
I felt ev'ry teardrop when in darkness you cried,
And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died."

Jesus, I give You my heart and my soul,
I know that without God I'd never be whole;
Savior, You opened all the right doors,
And I thank You and praise You from earth's humble shores;
Take me, I'm Yours.

And Jesus said, "Come to the water, stand by My side,
I know you are thirsty, you won't be denied;
I felt ev'ry teardrop when in darkness you cried,
And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died."
